A pair of Manhattan cops sprang to action after hearing shots ring out in Hamilton Heights Friday afternoon, chasing down a suspected gunman who turned out to have a long rap sheet.

Manny Paulino, 29, a purported Dominicans Don’t Play gang member, was arrested Friday and charged in connection with the shooting of Kevin Bonilla, 25.

The cops who busted him just happened to be passing by the scene, according to sources.

The pair, a sergeant and an officer, were driving down Broadway near West 143 Street at around 2:55 p.m. when they heard gunfire and saw Paulino allegedly fleeing east on the cross street.

The officers called for backup; together, they chased down Paulino, who was arrested without incident and allegedly found to be carrying a gun, sources said.

He has been charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a firearm.

Paulino has 38 priors and was arrested while on parole for second-degree assault, according to sources.

Bonilla, who was shot in the hip, transported himself to St. Luke’s Hospital.
